During and after tax filing period, there have been many incidents of scammers impersonating the IRS. Their goal is to get personal information from targets, resulting in identity theft. It is important to remember that the IRS will never discuss tax account information via email or use this means to ask for personal information. The IRS also will not request security information, such as a Personal Identification Number or Social Security Number, from taxpayers.
