December 2020 Community Pioneer

Community Pioneer LogoOur communities are filled with some of the kindest, most thoughtful people who are passionate about helping others. To recognize and support those doing great things, Pioneer is re-launching Community Pioneer this year with a new focus and plan. Every month, we will highlight one person doing good in the community and award them $1,000 to go towards the organization of their choice.

Winner: MSgt Mathew R.

man wearing a mask holding a large checkOur December 2020 Community Pioneer winner is MSgt Mathew R. with Operation Warmheart. Mathew is a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB). He has lived in Mountain Home for 5 ½ years, and five other bases prior to that. Mathew is married with two daughters and expecting a baby boy in early 2021. In his spare time he enjoys bike riding with his family and exploring what Idaho has to offer. What he loves most about Idaho and more specifically Mountain Home, is the support the community gives to the military. Mountain Home is the most supportive community in all the bases he has been stationed around the world.

Operation Warmheart is Gunfighters (MHAFB personnel) helping less fortunate folks both on base and in the local community.  The organization promotes the health and welfare of active duty, Guard, and Reserve personnel, along with Department of Defense (DOD) civilian personnel on MHAFB and develops camaraderie between all base personnel and the surrounding community.

The organization is a nonprofit, tax exempt agency that was established at MHAFB 25 years ago. They provide family service programs to personnel assigned to Mountain home Air Force Base. Grants can be provided to help families with financial assistance for urgent situations such as vehicle malfunctions and family emergencies. Items such as food or diapers are immediately available to help minimize hardships as well through the use of a stocked food locker. Aside from year-round assistance to military personnel, the organization also coordinates putting together and donating 250 Thanksgiving and 250 Christmas food baskets each holiday season for military personnel.
