August 2020 Community Pioneer

Community Pioneer LogoOur communities are filled with some of the kindest, most thoughtful people who are passionate about helping others. To recognize and support those doing great things, Pioneer is re-launching Community Pioneer this year with a new focus and plan. Every month, we will highlight one person doing good in the community and award them $1,000 to go towards the organization of their choice.

Winner: Ali R.

woman wearing a professional blazerOur August 2020 Community Pioneer winner is Ali R. with Jesse Tree. Ali is a proud alumnus of The College of Idaho and holds a J.D. from William & Mary Law School. In 2012, Ali received the Boren Fellowship, through which she supported indigenous communities in rural Cambodia fighting to keep their land. She continued the same work in Sierra Leone. Ali also spent some years working for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services as an adjudicator, processing refugees from all over the world. Now, she is the Executive Director of Jesse Tree and in her spare time, she teaches yoga and enjoys the outdoors. You might find her around Boise on her yellow bicycle or exploring nearby hiking trails with friends, family, and her dog!

Jesse Tree’s sole mission is to prevent eviction and homelessness. They operate a Housing Crisis Line, providing support, information, and referrals to community resources to our neighbors who are unable to pay their rent. They also offer landlord-tenant mediation services so people can resolve their crisis and avoid eviction. They provide rental assistance coupled with supportive services to households at highest risk of eviction and homelessness. Supportive services set people up for success and include landlord mediation, budgeting help, and house stability planning. Jesse Tree believes in keeping the traumatic, life-altering experience of eviction and homelessness from happening to our neighbors, and the Treasure Valley of Idaho.
