July 2020 Community Pioneer

Community Pioneer LogoOur communities are filled with some of the kindest, most thoughtful people who are passionate about helping others. To recognize and support those doing great things, Pioneer is re-launching Community Pioneer this year with a new focus and plan. Every month, we will highlight one person doing good in the community and award them $1,000 to go towards the organization of their choice.

Winner: Ramona D.

woman in sunglasses holding large checkOur July 2020 Community Pioneer winner is Ramona D. with the Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo! A giver through and through, Ramona’s career is spent working for the Ronald McDonald House of Boise as the Data and Administrative Director. In her free time, she helps run the Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo non-profit based out of Mountain Home, ID. Ramona is a mother of three and a proud grandmother of five grandchildren!

The Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo started 15 years ago in 2006 when, unfortunately, Ramona’s son Daniel passed away from a tragic rodeo accident. Rodeo was always a big part of Daniel's life. Anyone who knew Daniel or met him for the first time soon realized he was a cowboy in every way. Daniel died on August 7, 2005, from injuries sustained at a PRCA rodeo on August 6. He was 19. The night before he died, he lived one of his dreams.  He had drawn D & H Cattle Company's bucking bull Crossfire Hurricane at the Idaho Falls PRCA Rodeo.  Just to have the chance to put his rope on this great bull had him on cloud 9. Though he did not ride Crossfire for eight seconds, he sure gave him heck for about five.

The goal of the committee is to continue doing good things in Daniel’s hometown and give the community opportunities to celebrate his life and the sport he loved. Each year the rodeo provides the opportunity for various local schools and non-profit groups to raise funds for their organizations through concessions at the rodeo. Funds raised by the Daniel Dopps Memorial committee through ticket sales, merchandise sales, and fundraising go directly towards scholarships and charitable donations for the Elmore County community.
