End of Summer Activities Before School Starts

As summer vacation comes to an end and your family prepares to head back to school, it’s easy for your children to feel the end of summer blues. Even kids excited to head back to school might want to squeeze every ounce of fun out of their remaining days. Summer is a time of adventures, freedom, friends and fun. To keep your children engaged and having fun, here’s some great activities for the end of summer.

End of Summer Road Trip

By going on a road trip vacation, you engage them in a different environment and new sights to distract them. The whole time is something new for them to experience. Your trip could be a drive up to Coeur d’Alene and see the sights of Northern Idaho, heading over to the Oregon coast, or a long trip across the country.

You can even take the road trip in style with a motorhome or a trailer. If you’ve never experienced one, rent it and take it on the trip. A motorhome can lead to lifelong memories just from the experience. Movie nights, staying up late playing games, or just spending time close together can be great in a motorhome or trailer.

If you’ve done a few motorhome road trips and rented, maybe it’s time to buy one. It can make going on spontaneous road trips and camping much more comfortable. Plus, you create almost a second home for your family, an on-the-go vacation home. Pioneer can help you buy your motorhome or trailer with an RV loan so your end of summer road trip is unforgettable

Relaxing in the Pool

Pools are great for letting kids get their energy out while still playing outside. They have fun, maybe make some new friends, and enjoy the end of summer rather than staying inside playing games and being bored.

There are tons of community pools if you have a friend in the right neighborhoods, and also public pools across the Treasure Valley. But you also don’t need a pool to cool off. Floating the Boise River, swimming in local creeks, and taking a dip in a lake are all great ways of cooling off too. You could even mix it up between going to the pool and other local watering holes.

Get Their Brains Working Again

If your children spent the summer relaxing and playing, their brain might be filled with cobwebs and dust when it comes to academic work. By getting their minds working, you can get them into the schoolwork groove again. The secret though, is to make it fun.

Putting a bunch of worksheets and textbooks in front of them will just lead to moans and groans. There are tons of fun games and online tools that can get your kids thinking and practicing their schoolwork. Find one that works for your child’s age and future grade and let them think they are just playing a fun new game.

If you want to have a more hands on approach, you can work on some games yourself for them. Play classic games like Jeopardy or Who Wants to be a Millionaire to review subjects they learned in school. If there was a subject they struggled with last year, make a game to help re-teach and review it.

Theme Parks, Water Parks, and Family Fun Zones

Go to a theme park and let your kid ride rollercoasters and eat junk food ‘till they get sick. You can do a big trip to Disney, or just head south to Lagoon in Utah. There are theme parks all across the nation with tons of experiences.

Want to stay cool and still get the adrenaline pumping? Water parks like Roaring Springs in Meridian are perfect. Plus, they’ve recently expanded with more attractions for both adults and kids. Fun for the whole family!

If water slides aren’t your thing, you can pop right next door to Wahooz. They have bowling, laser tag, go-karts, mini-golf, and so many experiences to fill a day. When you get too hot, you head inside for some fun, and then you can head back out after you cool off. A perfect summer attraction.

Here’s the best part: Pioneer members get discounts on tickets to Lagoon, Roaring Springs and Wahooz. You can enjoy the end of summer having fun and save some money doing it!
