Staying Cool While Being Safe This Summer

Covid-19 is drastically changing how we live our lives and will definitely change how people have fun this summer. With social distancing as the norm, many summer activities can’t be done or have to be drastically changed. Whether you have kids you want to keep busy or you need ways to get out of the house, here are some activities to consider and steps to stay safe.

Avoid Activities with Crowds

As Idaho and other states start to open, this doesn’t mean it’s safe to go back to life as we knew it. Being around a lot of people is still risky and should be avoided. When selecting activities you want to do this summer, consider the number people who might be there and if it is too many, skip it this year.

Pools, Sprinklers, Water Fights and More

According to the CDC, there is no evidence that Covid-19 can be passed through the water used in pools, hot tubs or water playgrounds. As long as the water is properly disinfected and filtered, it’s safe.

If you don’t want to go to a public pool, bring the fun to your home. Buy your family a few water guns, turn on the sprinklers, or even purchase a small pool to put in your yard. You can all stay cool and happy through the summer and make some cherished memories.

There are also great rivers and streams you can float down for quality relaxation. This is a great activity you can do with friends while still maintaining a safe distance. Just grab a tube or other floatation device and chat away while heading down the stream.

Be sure to stay safe if you do go to the pool or other body of water. Avoid touching or getting close to other people and remember to wash with soap afterward, especially if you touch objects like handrails to get in or out of the pool.

Pick Up a New Hobby

One thing self-isolation does provide is time. Rather than letting boredom control you, this is a great time to explore different hobbies. There are limitless possibilities to explore to see what you enjoy. Painting, puzzles, video games, writing, and more are all great hobbies to try.

If there’s something you have always wanted to attempt or invest more time into, go for it. Improve yourself now because when the world becomes busy again, you likely won’t have the time.

Doing an activity with a group like your family is even better. Board games, puzzles, art, and other hobbies you can do together is a great way to enjoy each other’s company and have fun.

Really Explore the Great Outdoors

Regardless of what you do, being outside is great for your health and can be very rewarding. You might even want to shake it up and try outdoor activities you’ve never done before.

Hiking, fishing, camping, and more are relatively inexpensive and great ways to spend an afternoon or weekend. In our current stage of isolation, it might be beneficial to get away, turn off your phone, and just enjoy time in nature.

If you are looking to be more adventurous or want to enjoy the outdoors in style, you could rent or buy a recreational vehicle. Mountain biking, dirt biking, 4-wheeling, and more are all great activities to keep you moving and having fun. If sleeping in a tent isn’t your style, RVs and motorhomes are a great compromise!
