Pioneer Federal Credit Union was recently honored with two Diamond Awards from the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council. These awards recognize outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry. Awards are given in each of 30 categories, ranging from advertising to community events and beyond.

The goal of this campaign was to help members recognize and learn a little more about the employees they work with day-to-day.

The second award for our "Moving Forward. Giving Back!" Volunteer Pledge won Category's Best in the Ongoing Event category. As part of the credit union industry, we strive to live by the philosophy of "People Helping People." Our volunteer program asks employees to pledge a minimum of 12 hours each year devoted to community service. To make this simple, PFCU helps by coordinating group volunteer activities that employees can participate in to meet their pledge.

In 2015, PFCU employees volunteered 568 hours, and we wanted to reach at least 1,500 hours in 2016. This meant that 130 employees needed to volunteer 12 hours throughout the year. With empowerment, passion, and determination, we were able to exceed our goal by volunteering 3,413 hours in 2016.

Volunteering not only helps our communities, but it gives gratification to our employees as well. "I give back because I can, and in my heart I know it is what we should do if we are capable. There is nothing more rewarding that to help somebody in some way," said Paul Lucariello, West Regional Manager. All employees have different experiences, but often have the same feelings about volunteering. We are looking forward to surpassing our previous year's total for volunteer hours in 2017!
